5/1/08 School SUMMIT?? Supervisor Orloff brought up the idea of a school "summit" at our last township meeting in April 2008. My comment at that time was that the idea of making sure tax dollars were well spent was good and that I valued regional cooperation in general. I said I would not support his summit per se unless I had the details of what he planned to propose because I do not trust him. The last time Orloff had an idea about the QCSD, it was "keeping school board elections fair"; the next thing I knew he was planning a coup of the school board. I Asked Orloff to present these details at our next meeting in May, which we haven't had yet. Orloff instead chose to provide these "details" in a letter to the editor. Now that I see these details, I can say that I do not support his summit - nor his meddling, divisiveness and negativity towards a fine school district. I see the consequences of this Summit as destructive to the QCSD. Orloff does not speak for me in his letter. There has not been a Supervisors' vote or consensus other than agreeing that, in general, "tax dollars should always be well spent". I do not believe it is appropriate for supervisors to be second guessing or directing the school board any more than it would be for the school board to tell us how to run things in Richland Twp. I said this publicly at one of our recent township meetings. Orloff has the same rights as any resident of the QCSD to express himself, but he has no special rights in front of the school board because of his being a township supervisor. The QCSD is one of the factors that attracted me to this area. Some people don't recognize its high quality because they have no other school districts to compare it to. Orloff loves to flaunt his CPA degree, and this community has certainly changed in appearance since Orloff took office 13 years ago. He recognizes our community's tax contributions but he doesn't comprehend that a community is more than the money in its accounts. It is a quality-of-life that residents are used to and willing to pay for, preserve, and protect. -Mike Z.

—> 9/25/06 MIKE Z'S QUOTES FROM 9-25-06 BOS MEETING REGARDING REGIONAL vs. AT-LARGE SCHOOL BOARD MEMBERS: - problems [Stepanoff] mentions won't be solved by creating at-large board members. - at-large can lead to over-representation of one area and create a voting bloc; regional guarantees equal voice; local government works better. - no more appropriate for us to tell the School Board about the School Board than for the School Board to tell us, Richland Township, about development. - petition directed to get a particular response; not a fair petition - skewed to create a particular response. - all areas should have equal representation. - Stepanoff's assumptions not based on empirical evidence. - it's ludicrous - there's enough talent in each municipality to go around.
