WHAT’S woldow??

what awards?????

"I've been with the Scripps Howard Foundation for eight years and previously with the company (Scripps) for 19 years.  I've never heard of the Scripps-Howard Foundation Distinguished Journalism Citation.

I can tell you that many years ago Scripps Howard used to have a hyphen between the words, but as to the rest of the name of the award....I don't see anything [on Woldow] in the files.

"I'm trying not to read into this situation, but the names of the awards [on Woldow website] are just slightly off, which makes me suspicious. People never say they won the Alfred I. DuPont - Columbia University Award...they say Pulitzer Prize.  I've never heard of AP giving awards.  I just checked the AP site and it lists the Pulitzers the reporters and photogs have won, but there is no mention of the AP Certificate of Excellence for Investigative Reporting.

Scripps used to own United Press International (UPI) and I don't recall the organization giving any awards.

Look at the Chicago Headline Club site and you'll see a listing of all the categories and previous winners.  There is a Public Service category, but no Exemplary Journalism Public Service.

Again, I don't want to read too much into his list."

"Another thought. I was checking out his [Woldow] web site and at the top it states he is "Named one of the top 70 News Analysis and Opinion Columns in the United States by Dmoz Open Directory."  There's a link to the directory.  Take some time to read about this directory. I quickly read it and I think anyone can be listed.  No one is 'named.'

Think about this....if you won an Emmy or any national award, wouldn't you list that on your welcome page instead of your bio page?"

"It looks like he [Woldow] received a "Production Certificate" which is given to individuals who participated in the production of an Emmy-award winning piece but were not directly eligible for the category it was entered in. This is legitimate and is offered to individuals to order from the Academy. Currently, their participation has to be confirmed by the winning entrant in order to receive the certificate. I'm not sure what the procedure was in 1977.

According to our records, Susan Anderson is the only person listed in the records for the Emmy award and is the only eligible person to claim that she won the Emmy.  This individual could only claim that he participated in the production of an Emmy award-winning piece."

"Television is a collaborative medium and it is very rare that one person in isolation either gets a program produced and on the air and it is also rare that an entry has only one name or is given to one person alone. In most categories, the award goes to both the on air reporter and the producer(s). Each person eligible (multiple producers for example) is authorized to say that he or she is an Emmy Award winner. They don't have to say they won 1/5th of an Emmy, for example, if there were 5 names on the winning entry.

Although we never approve of misrepresentation, nor do we condone it, the Emmys shown in the picture are local Emmys and since the National Emmys have a larger and round base, there is no confusion in our minds that they are anything but local Emmys."

The Socially Skilled Child Molester  - click link to read more about the manipulative tactics of the child molester.

"....The smarter, richer, more socially skilled these child molesters, the greater success they experience. The addictive nature of their behavior ensures that they continuously engage in activities to access children... Ingratiating themselves with the adults and doing damage control are all necessary to provide ongoing repeated opportunities.... The people responsible for protecting children are sometimes enchanted by the smooth talk, friendly action, and kind support "Groomers" provide. Parents are typically so co-opted by the offender that when they become even slightly suspicious, they typically worry about ruining the reputations of respectable citizens, or being sued. Attempts to stop the molester are easily ended, because when challenged or cornered, these molesters typically go on the offensive, threatening to sue for slander, and making accusations of malice.... The children most at risk are those surrounded by adults who cannot stomach learning about child sexual abuse. These adults may therefore inadvertently be more likely to welcome child molesters into their homes, organizations, or communities, ignore the evidence, overcome concerns, and talk themselves out of believing possible suspicions.... In the majority of cases, molesters first ingratiate themselves with the adult community. They groom the parents, school, church, sports club, or any other organization, into accepting them as upstanding citizens in the community. These child molesters are known, loved, trusted, or possibly feared, and their conduct is, unfortunately, assumed to be "above reproach". Even after these "Groomers" are officially charged and convicted of a sexual offense, much of their predatory behavior remains invisible to the untrained eye. Many of these offenders continue to engage in their addictive habits, only becoming more sophisticated at evading detection."

Protecting Yourself from Emotional Blackmail
Cognitive Dissonance and Misinformation

Preventing yourself from becoming a victim of emotional blackmail and setting yourself up for cognitive dissonance is simple whether you are dealing with a relationship or a government. Once you know what it is and why it is being applied, it loses its power.

To defuse the current political game of emotional blackmail, begin looking at the news critically. Truth ultimately wins out. Persons using emotional blackmail know this. The closer to the truth, the more shrill the voices of manipulation become. Pressure is applied to the point of agony, all in an effort to hide the truth.

The harder the pressure, the closer you are to toppling the house of cards. Name-calling, hatred and verbal bulling tactics are all brilliant neon signs you'll see in the news that say, "I'm hiding something", "I don't want you to hear the whole story" or "Dig a little deeper and see what my real agenda is".

Know how to recognize the tactics of emotional blackmail -demand, resistance, pressure, threats, compliance, repetition. Begin sampling other sources of information to verify facts. When you realize this is what is happening, take no statement or representation at face value. You'll be amazed at the agendas many of the "opposing" pundits have. Omission of fact (silence) is the greatest weapon of manipulation. Ask yourself what questions aren't asked and answered. When you hear someone use incorrect information, tactfully correct them by saying, "I'm sorry that information is inaccurate. Are you aware of________" and state your facts and source. Speak with people from outside of the immediate area. Look for the truth, not the agenda. Sometimes this is hard, because years of thought and conditioning can be unraveled and the truth staring you in the face destroys all your pre-conceived notions.
